TallyLog cash spending in a flash

Privacy policy: Tally

This privacy policy applies to the iOS app Tally. The controller is Samuel Mellert; address and contact details are in the legal notice.

Your expenses

What you log, that is amount, currency and rate, merchant, items, note, time and place, Tally stores on your device only, in a storage area the app shares with its widgets. There is no syncing through iCloud. Like other app data, your expenses are part of your device or iCloud backup. They are removed when you delete the app.

Location

If you allow location access, Tally reads your location only while you use the app and “Capture” is open, in order to suggest the right merchant. If you save an expense at that moment, its precise coordinates are stored with it; at a new spot, Tally also creates a place. This data stays on your device, too. Without location access, Tally stores no coordinates.

Place names and local currency (Apple Maps)

To name a new place and, where you have never paid before, to determine the local currency, the app sends the coordinates to Apple’s maps service. These requests go directly from your device to Apple; I do not receive the data. Apple’s privacy policy applies to its processing.

Exchange rates (European Central Bank)

As soon as you use a foreign currency or open the currency picker, Tally loads the current reference rates from the European Central Bank’s website (www.ecb.europa.eu), at most every twelve hours. The request contains no information about you or your expenses. As with any request over the internet, the ECB’s server receives your IP address and technical details such as app version, iOS version and language setting. The ECB’s privacy notices apply to its processing. The rates are cached on the device.

CSV export and widgets

The CSV export contains all expenses including notes and, where available, coordinates. You decide in the share menu where the file goes. The Lock Screen widget shows your spending for the week and month even while the iPhone is locked.

No tracking

Tally has no user account and no server of its own, contains no advertising and no analytics or tracking tools, and transfers no data to me or to third parties, apart from the requests to Apple and the ECB described above.

App Store and TestFlight

The app is distributed through Apple’s App Store; test versions through TestFlight. Apple itself is responsible for downloads, purchases and updates, and Apple’s privacy policy applies.

If you have agreed in your iPhone’s settings to share analytics with app developers, Apple provides me with aggregated usage statistics and crash reports. They contain nothing that would allow me to identify you. If you take part in a TestFlight test, I see the name and email address you were invited with and the feedback you send through TestFlight.

Your rights

Your rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, data portability and objection, and your right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority, are described in the privacy section of the legal notice. For questions about privacy, an email to mail@samuel-mellert.de is enough.
