With your location, Tally recognizes where you pay and suggests the merchant you usually choose there. Tally only asks for it “while using the app” and only reads it while “Capture” is open.

Tally also works without your location; suggestions are then based on weekday and time. You can allow or revoke access at any time in the iPhone’s Settings under Apps → Tally → Location.

When you pay somewhere new, Tally creates a place there with a radius of 150 metres and names it using Apple Maps. You can rename and delete places in the app’s settings.

Abroad, Tally switches to the local currency by itself; you can also choose it by hand. Amounts are converted with the European Central Bank’s reference rates, published on working days at around 4 pm CET. Tally loads them at most every twelve hours and keeps them for when you are offline.

If a rate is missing or you want to use your own, such as your bank’s, enter it in the currency picker. Each expense keeps the rate from the time it was logged; statistics are in euros.

Forgot one? “Enter Afterwards” lets you log an expense with a past date and choose the place from your list. Expenses added later store no location.

In the history, “Export CSV” exports all expenses as a file that you can save or pass on through the share menu. It contains date, time, merchant, place, amount, currency, amount in euros, rate, items, note and, where available, the coordinates. Spreadsheet apps such as Numbers or Excel open it directly.

Touch and hold the Home Screen, tap “Edit”, then “Add Widget”, and choose Tally. The widget shows what you have spent in cash this week and this month. On the Lock Screen, these amounts are visible even while the iPhone is locked.

The “Add Cash Expense” control opens the keypad directly. Add it to Control Center, the Lock Screen or under Settings → Action Button. With Siri, say “Add a cash expense in Tally”.

Delete an expense in the history by swiping or touching and holding it. Delete merchants and places in the app’s settings; their expenses are kept. To remove all data at once, delete the app.
